It's Always Cereal Season.

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

An experiment. Try your best to think of seasonal desserts. Sure, there is the traditional Christmas cake and the pumpkin pie, but few desserts endure all year round. Ice cream is less compelling in the winter, a heavy cake, less compelling in the summer. That has always been the draw to me about cereal. Somewhere out there are cereal mixologists and food scientists experimenting with the latest ideas in cereal technology. Don't think so? Next time you're at the grocery store, you'll notice that along with all of the usual brands, there is always a fair suite of 'special edition' cereals.

These limited time cereals are often times seasonally themed, but not always. I would love to know what the parameters are for cereal innovation. How far is too far? Can Cap'N Crunch ever have enough berries? Lucky Charms, enough weirdly shaped marshmallows? I figured if the cereal industry is flexible enough to experiment with different ideas throughout each passing year, then surely I should be able to provide a similar variety of cereal treats. A task I never imagined would be so difficult.

It turns out, these special edition cereals are made out of different ingredients that don't hold as well in terms of cereal staleness. As a result, I've thrown more than a few batches in the bin due to the cereal going stale after one day, when sealed of course. It also happens to be there reason that I haven't introduced a new flavour since my Christmas Crunch Bar. That's why I think it is appropriate to announce here that the next bar in the roster is going to be the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bar with white chocolate drizzle. Look out for it soon!!

In the mean time, take care of yourselves and each other.
