How to help small businesses, and a little announcement....

Covid 19 has been called the Great Accelerator. Essentially meaning that all of the automation and social change that seemed years away is being thrust right in front of us in the face of the pandemic. Contactless service use is at all time high thanks to the pandemic with companies like Amazon profiting millions of dollars at a time when most families struggle to get by. You might be thinking, how does Amazon's success diminish the quality of life in my community? They provide thousands of decent paying jobs, how are they the bad guy? The truth is they're not, we are.

Ordered it yesterday, it's here today. That's why Amazon wins.

I can imagine anyone who reads this thinking that the author has a problem with Market Capitalism. I believe that we need both small, and large businesses to succeed. The big box stores get a lot of flack for taking business away smaller operations, and removing the community culture that was present before a new building was occupied. Ask yourself one question: If there was a household item that you needed immediately but no small business carried it and no substitute could be used, would you not buy the product? If your answer is yes well guess what? You're not a bad person. Think about it like this. If you go into a family owned business, you already know you're going to be paying a premium on the item to account for the operating costs. If you're a reasonable consumer, you may even understand the value of paying more for something that isn't widely available. But we cannot live with just one or the other. I know I cannot find my dog food at the local retailer, but Walmart always does, so what am I to do? Let Spock go hungry?

Spock in all her splendor

In order for the economy to be successful we need large businesses to employ lots of people, and we need small businesses to give those specialty services we can't get anywhere else. If we really want to talk about big business malpractice, we can talk about the low wages and toxic work culture that permeates a lot of the retail industry. Not shaming each other out of making the best decisions we can for our families. The best we can do is vote with our wallets and put our money where we want. No reason to deal with the same old if something new is available. Speaking of something new that's available, we've got a new bar launching today called the Cinnamon Chocolate Swirl Bar!!!!
